Consultation on proposed Admission Arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools – 2025-26

Closed 19 Nov 2023

Opened 9 Oct 2023

Results expected 15 Mar 2024

Overview

All schools must have admission arrangements that clearly set out how children will be admitted, including the criteria that will be applied if there are more applications than places at the school.  Admission arrangements are determined by admission authorities.  Cumberland Council (the local authority) is the admission authority for all community and voluntary controlled schools with the local authority area of Cumberland.

Why your views matter

The School Admissions Code 2021 requires admission authorities to consult where changes are proposed to admission arrangements which will apply in the following academic year.  As the admission authority for all community and voluntary controlled schools within the local authority area of Cumberland, the local authority is seeking views on the proposed admission arrangements and the co-ordinated admission scheme for 2025-26.

For more information, including who admission authorities need to consult with, please refer to the School Admissions Code at www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-admissions-code--2

Alternatively, please contact the School Admissions and Appeals Team, tel: 01228 221582 or e-mail: school.admissions@cumberalnd.gov.uk

What happens next

The consultation closes on 19th November 2023.  Any responses that have been received will be reviewed.  Responses will be used to inform the final admission arrangements and co-ordinated admissions scheme for community and voluntary controlled schools for 2025-26.  The final arrangements will be presented, seeking approval, to the Council Cabinet in February 2024.

Subject to agreement, the final admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools for 2025-26 will be published on the Council website no later than 15 March 2024.  The co-ordinated admission scheme must be determined by 1 January 2024.
