We are carrying out an interim review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations across Cumberland.
By law, councils must regularly review their polling arrangements to ensure residents have reasonable and accessible facilities for voting. The last full review took place in 2024, following the creation of Cumberland Council. While the next statutory review is not due until 2029, this interim review is being undertaken to reflect changes arising from the recent boundary review, as well as to consider polling stations that are no longer available or suitable.
The review affects all Cumberland Wards, although in some areas the changes are minor, such as updates to polling district codes. In other areas, there are proposed changes to polling district boundaries, polling places or polling station venues.
As part of the review, we will consult with the acting returning officer, local councillors, parish councils, political parties, community organisations, charities and disability groups. Feedback received during this public consultation will be considered before final recommendations are made.
The outcome of the review will be used to prepare the revised Register of Electors, which is planned to be published on Tuesday 1 December 2026.

Why your views matter

Definition of Terms:
Polling District - A polling district is the area created by the division of a constituency, ward or division into smaller parts.
Polling Place - A polling place is the building or area in which polling stations will be located.
Polling Station - A polling station is the room within the polling place where voting takes place.
Who can comment
Any registered elector within the Cumberland Council area or from within a UK Parliamentary constituency, which has any part in the authority may comment on the proposals. We welcome the views of all residents, or any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability, on the proposed polling districts and polling places or any other related matters.
The Council will consult with local political parties, MPs, councillors, parish and town councils.
