As part of the Workington Gateway Project, we’re creating a unique piece of public artwork for the new mini park at Ramsay Brow. To make sure this reflects the spirit of Workington, we’ve appointed Creative Conversations to lead the research and development process.
Creative Conversations was the first stage of Workington’s Gateway Project, aimed at shaping ideas for public artworks around Hall Park. From January to March 2025, nine local groups (around 115 participants) took part in creative sessions to share their views. These included Ashfield Junior School, Cumbria Deaf Association, Cumbria Nature Partnership, Moorclose Community Centre, West House, Workington Academy, and Workington Heritage Trust.
The process focused on inclusivity, building community pride, and strengthening connections with Hall Park. Activities were designed for all ages and abilities, creating safe, welcoming spaces for open discussion. Ideas were tested across groups, with participants informed that future opportunities for input would follow.
This phase used a Creative Placemaking approach, connecting people to place through art and collective decision-making, laying strong foundations for future projects and consultations.
We’re now asking you for your input to help select the main theme of an artwork in our new mini park. The survey will run until Friday 9 January 2026.
