What’s this about?

Every school has rules about how children are offered places. These are called admission arrangements. They explain how places are given out, especially when there are more applications than places available.

Cumberland Council is responsible for setting these rules for community and voluntary controlled schools in the local area.

Why are we asking for your views?

We’re thinking about making some changes to the admission arrangements for the 2027–28 school year. This includes reducing the number of places available (called the Published Admission Number or PAN) at four schools:

  • The Nelson Thomlinson School, Wigton
  • Pennine Way Primary School, Carlisle
  • Norman Street Primary School, Carlisle
  • Inglewood Infant School, Carlisle

Before we make any decisions, we want to hear what you think.

What happens after the consultation?

We’ll look at all the feedback we receive and use it to help make final decisions. These will be shared with the Council Cabinet in January 2026. If approved, the final admission arrangements will be published on the Council’s website by 15 March 2026.
